More than 6.5 thousand cases of measles infection have been registered in Kyrgyzstan since the beginning of the year.

Asia (bbabo.net), - In Kyrgyzstan, 6,545 cases of measles infection have been registered since the beginning of the year. News agency 24.kg reports this with reference to the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis.

According to the department, active circulation of the virus is still occurring in Bishkek, Chui, and Jalal-Abad regions. The high increase in incidence is associated with organized outbreaks where susceptible individuals are infected among their contacts.

The main reason for the increase in morbidity remains the large number of refusals from routine immunization against measles and rubella among children and adults.

“The Ministry of Health has strengthened preventive and anti-epidemiological measures to combat measles. The second stage of the immunization campaign in response to the outbreak of the disease has started in Kyrgyzstan, which will take place in the Jalal-Abad region. The vaccination can be obtained free of charge at FMCs/FGPs/FAPs and at temporary vaccination points in educational institutions,” the department’s information says.

In all other areas, catch-up immunization against measles and rubella has been strengthened as part of routine immunization with the rubella, mumps, and measles (MMR) vaccine. As part of the second phase of the immunization campaign in response to the measles outbreak, additional immunization will begin in the rest of the country as additional doses of rubella-measles vaccine become available.
