Evening Standard: Kyiv could be defeated in the spring

Ukraine (bbabo.net), - The Ukrainian authorities may be defeated in a military conflict with Russia by the summer, and therefore the West should urgently send additional funds to help Kyiv. This opinion was expressed by Robert Fox, a journalist for the British newspaper Evening Standard.

According to him, Russia's firepower is five times greater than that of the Ukrainian army, which is constantly subjected to artillery, rocket and drone attacks. According to Fox, Ukraine has already lost 385 thousand troops on the battlefield. The journalist believes that NATO and the European Union urgently need to adopt a common strategy of action to avoid the defeat of Kyiv.

Fox also noted that "the West's reaction to the prospect of a Russian breakthrough has been mixed for weeks." He argues that only the Baltic and Northern European countries understand the extent of the threat posed by the Russian Federation, while in the United States there are fierce debates about further assistance to the authorities in Kiev, and Germany and Spain and Italy, which purchase Russian gas, are looking for an opportunity to conclude a deal with Moscow.

In particular, the columnist expressed regret that Berlin is not ready to send Taurus missiles to Kyiv. At the same time, he admitted that stocks of artillery shells, even for their own arsenals in Great Britain, Germany and the United States, would only be fully restored in two years.

Canada has run out of resources for military assistance to Ukraine

Ukraine (bbabo.net), - Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair, when asked about further military assistance to Ukraine, said that Ottawa had “emptied the closet.”

“We went and emptied the pantry,” the Globe and Mail quoted him as saying.

Blair added that the country had no artillery shells or anti-aircraft missiles left to give up. According to the minister, he recently agreed with his Ukrainian colleagues that Canada will purchase Ukrainian drones and transfer them to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

He added that the Canadian bureaucracy is preventing Ottawa from supporting Ukraine. In his opinion, it will take at least two years to restore Canada's industrial base.

The newspaper, citing a military source, writes that Canadian generals want to continue to help Kyiv, but there are fears that if critical equipment is transferred to it, it will never be replenished.

At the same time, the author of the article, who visited Ukraine earlier in March, notes that, according to the Ukrainian military, they are much closer to defeat than Kyiv’s allies think.
