Kazakhstan does not see a serious alternative to exporting Kazakh oil through Russia

USA (bbabo.net), - Export of oil from Kazakhstan through Russia is the main route for the supply of raw materials. And there is no alternative route to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) in the near future, according to the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.

“Today, in the short term, there is no full-fledged alternative to replace the CPC export route, since out of the total export volume of 70.5 million tons via the CPC route, exports amount to 56.6 million tons, or 80%,” the Ministry of Energy reported. Kazakhstan, TASS reports.

The department added that Kazakhstan is considering alternative routes and a working group has been created to develop the Trans-Caspian international transport route. Kazmunaigas and the Azerbaijani Socar agreed to transport Kazakh oil via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline - 1.5 million tons per year.

“The issue is being discussed with the Azerbaijani side to consider the possibility of transporting Kazakh oil via the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline in a volume of up to 5 million tons per year. In March 2024, an agreement was signed between KMG and SOCAR on a gradual increase in the volume of transit of Kazakh oil through the Republic of Azerbaijan. Following the negotiations, the Azerbaijani side expressed its readiness to increase the volume of accepted Kazakh oil to 2.2 million tons per year,” said the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.

As bbabo.net reported, the export of Kazakh oil via alternative routes does not have time to grow as quickly as it does through Russia. In 2023, three times more additional supplies passed through it than through Azerbaijan.

CPC accounts for 80% of all oil supplies from Kazakhstan. In 2023, it carried 56 million tons of oil from Kazakhstan. The head of CPC Nikolai Gorban said that the consortium of the Russian Transneft, the Kazakh Kazmunaigas, the American Chevron and 8 other companies is ready to reach 70 million tons per year.
