Will Borrell's plan work? Arm Kyiv with 90% of the proceeds from Russia's frozen assets

Ukraine (bbabo.net), - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell presented to EU member states a proposal to use 90% of the profits from Russia's frozen assets to provide military assistance to Ukraine through the European Peace Fund.

“Today I presented a proposal to use the windfall from Russian frozen assets to support Ukraine in its fight to win. 90% will be allocated through the European Peace Fund, and 10% through the EU budget,” he wrote on his page on the social network X, TASS reports.

Borrell expressed hope that the EU Council will soon approve his proposal.

“This will demonstrate the EU’s unity and commitment to supporting Ukraine and its people,” he said.

The proposal was announced on the eve of the European Union summit on March 21-22, at which the issue of using Russian assets will become one of the main ones.

As reported, in February, EU countries supported the decision of the European Commission that income from frozen assets allegedly did not belong to Russia. According to experts in the banking industry, this formulation of the question in practice roughly corresponds to the thesis that income from a bank deposit does not belong to its owner.
