IDF tank units have returned to Khan Yunis, where mass graves are being excavated

On Monday, IDF tank units again entered the eastern neighborhoods of Khan Yunis, forcing residents who had returned to the city to flee again, Reuters reported, citing Palestinian sources in Khan Yunis. The invasion was reported to be sudden and accompanied by intense fire from tank guns.

Khan Yunis, the birthplace of Yahya Sinwar and the second largest city in Gaza, was “cleared” by the IDF for more than three months. At the beginning of April, the operation was completed, and units of the 98th division were withdrawn from Khan Yunis. Sources in the IDF explained the withdrawal of troops by “exhaustion of combat missions,” and Defense Minister Yoav Galant explained the need to redeploy forces in preparation for the operation in Rafah.

Thousands of Palestinians who fled from Khan Yunis to Rafah began returning to the ruins of their homes literally the next day after the Israeli army left. In recent weeks, Palestinian rescue services have daily reported to the world the excavation of mass graves left after the departure of the IDF on the territory of the local Nasser Hospital.

The Palestinian news agency Wafa reports from the local civil defense service that the remains of 283 people, mostly women and children, have been recovered from the mass grave as of this hour. Reuters confirms that bodies are being dug up from mass graves on the premises of Nasser Hospital. The agency's correspondent saw the work of rescuers and reported from them that 73 bodies were pulled out of the ground today, and their total number reached 283.
