A Belarusian cargo terminal will appear in the Murmansk region

Belarus (bbabo.net), - A Belarusian terminal for cargo transshipment will be built in the Murmansk region. The corresponding agreement was signed today, April 22, by the head of the region Andrei Chibis and the general director of the Arctic Gate Marine Terminal LLC Andrei Bunakov.

According to the Russian governor, the signing of the agreement was preceded by serious work, during which an assessment of the land plot and the capabilities of the railway infrastructure was carried out.

“We are now considering the possibility of transshipping 25 million tons of cargo per year. Of course, investments in this project will be very large,” Chibis said.

In turn, Andrei Bunakov noted that the Belarusian terminal in Murmansk will increase cargo transshipment and expand exports, thanks to access to the ocean through the Northern Sea Route. According to him, it is very important for the Belarusian side to have access to an ice-free port in the Russian region. He also said that a multimodal complex will be built, which will allow servicing various cargoes and placing containers.

“We set ourselves short deadlines both for developing the project and for putting the first facilities into operation. We assume that the first cargo will begin to arrive in 2028,” he noted.

Let us remind you that Belarus is under strict Western sanctions. In this regard, Minsk is strengthening cooperation with Russia. Including in the field of transshipment of goods that were previously exported through the ports of the Baltic countries.
