Rumors: Apple is exploring the possibility of creating a MacBook with a 20-inch folding display

Ross Young, founder of research firms DisplaySearch and Display Supply Chain Consultants, said Apple is delaying the launch of the foldable iPhone with a flexible screen. The company is exploring the possibility of creating a MacBook with a 20-inch flexible display.

According to Yang, the new MacBook will be the largest in the history of Apple laptops. He says the device will have a variety of uses, including as a full-size keyboard when folded, as well as an external display or all-in-one when unfolded. The analyst believes that the MacBook will support 4K and 5K resolutions.

Young has repeatedly reported on Apple screens, however, he has never talked about the folding display for the company's laptops.

The analyst suggests that the production of flexible display MacBooks will begin between 2025 and 2027, and maybe later. Yang says iPhones with similar screens won't arrive until 2025 at the earliest. Previously, analysts believed that similar Apple smartphones would be released in 2023-2024.

At the beginning of the year, insider Dylandkt revealed that Apple is experimenting with foldable iPhone prototypes, but full-fledged smartphones won't be available anytime soon as the company has concerns about the technology. Rumors of foldable iPhones have been circulating since 2016, when ETNews reported that LG had developed and mass-produced foldable screens for Apple, Google and Microsoft smartphones.

In the middle of last month, Yang said that the upcoming iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will feature LTPS displays, while the Pro smartphones may come with LTPO displays. All four variations of the iPhone 14 will have a 120Hz refresh rate.

At the beginning of the year at CES 2022, ASUS showed a laptop with a 17-inch OLED screen. The device is a transformer with a detachable bluetooth keyboard.
