Dmitry Mezentsev and Natalya Kochanova visited the most ancient city of Belarus

The construction of a refectory and a monastery hotel in the most ancient Belarusian city of Polotsk on the Polota River was one of the topics discussed by the speaker of the upper house of the national parliament Natalya Kochanova and State Secretary of the Union State Dmitry Mezentsev.

In four years, BelTA says, the Spaso-Euphrosyne convent will be 900 years old, and one of the clergy's concerns is the lack of a refectory and a roomy hotel for pilgrims. Thousands of tourists come to the monastery every year, some of them purposefully make trips to the holy places.

In this regard, Dmitry Mezentsev explained that although there are no specific projects with the Union State yet, the first steps towards cooperation have already been taken. “We will thoroughly study all the conclusions that restorers, architects, those people who are working on preserving the unique heritage that have been given to us today.

Having visited this unique historical monument in the Vitebsk region for the first time, Mezentsev emphasized that it was an unforgettable moment for him, and as a church-going person it was a great honor to visit the holy monastery, to touch the relics of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk. He hopes that someday he will be able to come to one of the oldest Orthodox monasteries with his family.

As part of the working trip, the agency informs, the guests also visited St. Sophia Cathedral and Polotsk State University.
