This was reported in the office of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko. "We will start issuing them from the beginning of 2023, tentatively, in pilot regions that have a high technological readiness for the use of such documents - these are Moscow, the Moscow region and Tatarstan. And such a passport can be used anywhere in Russia," premiere.

The official clarified that the system project is already ready, technical tests of the basic electronic components - microcircuits and blanks - have been carried out earlier. "On the card containing several degrees of protection against counterfeiting, personal data of the person, his photograph will be applied. By the end of next year, all preparatory measures will be completed," said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

Recall that a digital passport is an analogue of an electronic bank card with a contactless chip. If desired, it will be possible to enter other data into the memory of the smart card, for example, TIN, SNILS or driver's license number.

Replacing a paper document with a smart card will be voluntary. "Although I am sure that the majority choice will be obvious in favor of electronic media," the Deputy Prime Minister concluded.

A day earlier, Valentina Kazakova, head of the MIA Main Directorate for Migration, said that detailed requirements for the procedure for issuing and processing electronic passports were being worked out. The planned date for the start of their issuance is January 2023.

"The number of new passports issued will primarily depend on the desire of citizens to obtain them, but, according to our forecasts, at the initial stage, their number will be at least 100 thousand," Kazakova said.

Legally, the new digital passport will have the same status as the current paper one, the Ministry of Internal Affairs assured.
