More than two thousand orphans are on the waiting list for apartments in the region. The authorities allocate budgetary funds for the purchase of comfortable housing for them. But things are not moving so quickly, and the main reason is the shortage of apartments on the housing market, which, according to the law, can be provided to orphans. Recall that strict requirements are imposed on them - only one-room apartments with a fine finish with an area of ​​28 to 36 square meters are suitable.

“As a result, the money allocated for the implementation of this program is not being spent in full,” said Antonina Fedorova, Deputy Chairperson of the Social Policy Committee of the Legislative Assembly of the region.

That is why the region decided to amend the legislation. Starting from 2022, it will be possible to provide apartments for orphans with a larger area - up to 45 square meters. In addition, the requirement that it should only be a one-room apartment has been removed - now it is possible to purchase a two-room apartment within the established area.

In the Vologda region, there is another way of providing apartments for orphans - housing certificates. Payment for them is equivalent to the cost of 33 square meters of housing. But certificates won't solve the whole problem. First of all, young people who have a court decision on the provision of an apartment can apply for them. And there are about 400 of them. Therefore, the region decided to change the area of ​​housing provided.
