At the same time, he stressed that "it was not some kind of purely New Year's Eve conversation, some kind of Christmastide gatherings."

"Exactly one day before the New Year, a truly important political action took place, in which our and the American presidents played their roles," Ushakov gave his assessment of the negotiations. He noted that the conversation lasted 50 minutes, and the Russian side is generally satisfied with the contact, "because the negotiations were frank, meaningful, concrete.
