Macron hopes for pandemic to end in 2022

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed hope for an early end to the coronavirus pandemic in 2022. He stated this in a New Year's address to compatriots, adding that the country faces difficult weeks in connection with the fifth wave of coronavirus.

The French leader called on 5 million fellow citizens who have not yet been vaccinated to follow the example of most of their compatriots and get vaccinated. The President considers vaccination to be a manifestation of everyone's civic responsibility, TASS reports.

In France, the anti-record for the number of cases was updated on Friday. During the day, the authorities recorded more than 232 thousand new cases, which was the largest indicator for the entire time of a pandemic that began two years ago.

In France, more than two people are diagnosed with coronavirus every second, the head of the country's Ministry of Health Olivier Veran said earlier.

As a reminder, since December 31, wearing masks has become mandatory in Paris and throughout the Ile-de-France metropolitan region. This measure affected all residents over 11 years old. An exception was made only for motorists, cyclists, as well as those who go in for outdoor sports.
