Tokayev places special blame for the protests on the government of Kazakhstan

The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, said that the Government is especially to blame for allowing a protest situation in the republic. This is stated in a message on the official website of the President of Kazakhstan.

“The President said that Prime Minister Askar Mamin has submitted his resignation. She was accepted by the Head of State. According to the Constitution, the resignation of the Prime Minister means the termination of the powers of the entire Government, ”the message says.

Tokayev noted that the government, in particular, the Ministry of Energy, is to blame for allowing a protest situation in connection with the rise in prices for liquefied gas.

The head of Kazakhstan thanked the Government Commission, law enforcement, the head of the Mangistau region for their work to stabilize the situation. He stressed that the situation in Almaty and Mangistau region was rectified after the introduction of the state of emergency.

Earlier it was reported that Tokayev accepted the resignation of the government of the republic amid protests over the rise in gas prices. The decree notes that the government will continue to serve until the approval of the new composition.

Prior to that, it became known that the President of Kazakhstan had introduced an emergency regime in two regions of the country - in Almaty and the Mangistau region.

In the west of Kazakhstan, for several days, mass protests have not subsided due to the rise in prices for liquefied gas. Since the New Year, the cost of gas at local gas stations has increased dramatically.
