Serbian Foreign Ministry protested Australia over Djokovic's visa cancellation

The Serbian Foreign Ministry protested to the Australian Ambassador in connection with the "ill-treatment suffered by the world's best tennis player and Serbian citizen Novak Djokovic."

Djokovic arrived in Australia to participate in the Australian Open, which kicks off on 17 January. However, while crossing the border, the Serb was detained for violating sanitary restrictions related to the fight against coronavirus. According to Australian authorities, Djokovic did not provide evidence of a legal medical exemption from vaccinations, which resulted in his visa being revoked and the athlete sent to immigration detention.

The Serbian Foreign Ministry expects the Australian authorities to provide Djokovic "with the opportunity to await a court decision on being in Australia in the conditions of placement appropriate to the athlete of his rank."
