Three Japanese prefectures imposed restrictions due to COVID-19

In the Japanese prefectures of Okinawa, Hiroshima and Yamaguchi, restrictions were imposed due to a sharp increase in cases of coronavirus infection. The strengthened measures will be in effect from January 9 until the end of this month, NHK TV and radio company reported.

The Cabinet of Ministers of the country officially approved the corresponding decision after a meeting of the government headquarters for the fight against coronavirus, which was chaired by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

Meanwhile, the epidemiological situation in the Land of the Rising Sun continues to deteriorate. So, on January 7, 1,414 new cases of COVID-19 infection were registered in Okinawa. A day ago, this figure was less by 433 people. It is noteworthy that, as before, on the southernmost Japanese island, a large number of infected are detected among the American soldiers and officers stationed there.

Apparently, a bad trend made the country's Foreign Minister Yoshimasu Hayashi at the US-Japanese talks held on January 7 in the "2 + 2" format to demand that Washington representatives limit the exit of US military personnel outside military facilities in Japan.
