The United States may ban the import of phones, computers and refrigerators into Russia

The US Department of Commerce may prohibit the export to Russia of any consumer goods using US-made or US-developed electronics in the event of a Russian attack on Ukraine. It is reported by The New York Times with reference to American officials.

It is noted that the restrictions will apply to phones, computers, refrigerators, dishwashers and other electronics, including those made in Europe, South Korea and other foreign countries.

According to the publication, Washington is also considering sanctions against major Russian financial institutions relying on international money transfers, restrictions on Russian fighters, air defense and anti-satellite defense systems and space systems, as well as sanctions on innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing.

Earlier it was reported that the United States is considering limiting the supply of smartphones to Russia. This could be a retaliatory measure in the event of "aggressive actions" against Ukraine. According to the experts interviewed, such sanctions are unlikely: such restrictions may not be effective; moreover, it is also economically disadvantageous for the Americans themselves. But if Washington does take this measure, it will affect not only iPhones, but also other smartphones, since they use American technology.
