The Russian Orthodox Church explained the concern of believers due to the introduction of digital passports

Russia and the CIS (bbabo.net) - The Russian Orthodox Church said that believers are wary of the introduction of digital passports, seeing this as a possible control over an individual, MK reports.

According to the secretary of the Synodal Commission on Bioethics, Archpriest Alexander Abramov, citizens skeptical about digital passports do not oppose progress, but worry about the observance of their constitutional rights.

A representative of the Church noted that there is nothing wrong with changing the form of a passport as such, but people should have the right to choose whether to keep a paper passport or switch to a digital medium.

But if there are restrictive measures behind the innovation, then this will not cause delight in anyone, regardless of confessional affiliation, Abramov added.

Earlier it became known that digital passports will begin to be issued to citizens from 2023 as part of a pilot project that will apply to Moscow, the Moscow region and Tatarstan.

Identity card in the form of a smart card will look no different from any bank card with a contactless chip. If desired, other documents will be entered on it, including TIN, SNILS, driver's license number.
