Tokayev thanked Putin and Lukashenko for their help in the fight against riots in Kazakhstan

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev thanked the leaders of Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan for their help within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) against the backdrop of unrest in the country. The Kazakh leader said this at a session of the CSTO Collective Security Council.

Three countries sent peacekeeping contingents to Kazakhstan. Tokayev expressed particular gratitude to Putin for his prompt assistance.

“Vladimir Vladimirovich, we have been in constant contact with you since the first days of the terrorist attack on our country. I express my gratitude to you, Alexander Grigorievich (President of Belarus - ed.), Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov (President of Kyrgyzstan - Ed.), Emomali Sharipovich Rakhmonov (President of Tajikistan - Ed.) For political and even military brotherhood ", - said the President of Kazakhstan.

Earlier Tokayev said that constitutional order has been restored in Kazakhstan.

On January 2, mass protests began in Kazakhstan. This happened after the government decided to raise gas prices from 60 to 120 tenge. The protests quickly escalated into riots and clashes with the police. Against the background of these events, peacekeepers from the CSTO countries, including Russia, were sent to the republic.

As a result of the riots in Kazakhstan, 17 security officials were killed, five citizens of Kyrgyzstan were detained, and more than 1.5 thousand people were prosecuted for violating the state of emergency.
