Indian authorities introduced mandatory quarantine for all visitors

New rules for entry into India come into force on 11 January. Now all travelers are waiting for several PCR tests and a weekly quarantine.

Previously, the weekly home quarantine rule was only valid for travelers from "countries at risk." However, against the background of an increase in the number of cases of coronavirus in India, the Ministry of Health decided to extend this requirement to all visitors, RIA Novosti reports.

Now those who want to visit India must pass the first PCR test 72 hours before boarding the plane. Then the test will need to be passed upon arrival in the country and on the eighth day of quarantine. If the test is positive, the traveler will remain under home quarantine or be transferred to a hospital.

Since the beginning of January this year, the total number of patients with coronavirus in India has increased 10-fold. According to doctors, the country is experiencing an exponential increase in the number of cases of infection, which is most likely due to the omicron strain.

Today, India remains the world's second most diagnosed COVID-19 case. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the total number of infected has exceeded 35.2 million, 483 thousand people have become victims of COVID-19.
