Two robotic warehouse stores from JD.com opened in the Netherlands

JD.com has opened two retail stores called Ochama in the Netherlands that combine online ordering with pick-up shops where robots prepare packages for collection and offer home delivery or other convenient delivery services. They are located in the cities of Leiden and Rotterdam, but, according to the company, there are plans to open two more stores in Amsterdam and Utrecht.

Perhaps JD.com has decided to compete with Amazon and expand the market for its services and products outside of China. True, there are Amazon Go stores in the US, and Amazon Fresh in the UK. But the American IT giant is unlikely to stop there.

So, with JD.com's Ochama app, users can order everything from food to cosmetics and household items. After ordering, you can safely go to the store, where various automated and robotic systems will collect and sort the order. Then the customer can scan the barcode in his application and his orders will be delivered along the conveyor belt. You can also choose delivery, but it will be the next day. As Ochama general manager at JD Worldwide Paz Leigh said:

“With a wealth of retail experience and advanced logistics technology that the company has accumulated over the years, we strive to create an unparalleled shopping experience for customers in Europe with the best prices and service.”

This announcement illustrates JD.com's commitment to building a customer base in Europe. And although this is one of the few firms that has hardly been affected by the pressure from the PRC government on tech giants, the state apparatus still pays attention to it. Therefore, entering other markets is a good option to reduce this attention. Moreover, Tencent, which until recently belonged to JD.com, came under investigation and verification by the Chinese government.
