Artificial intelligence made its first million in paintings

The title is somewhat strange, yes, but the news is quite real - an AI trained to paint pictures was able to create several works that were sold for a million US dollars. We are talking about an algorithm called Botto.

The authors of the project determine the plot of the paintings and the general direction of creativity. After the painting is generated, it is put up for auction. It is worth noting that the neural network is capable of generating several hundred paintings a day - many artists will envy this. But only a few works go to the auction, they are selected by a special commission.

Creating a picture consists of several stages. At the very beginning, the algorithm generates random words and phrases. They determine the direction of future work.

The plot of the picture is formed by these words and phrases. But that's not all, the algorithm, after the picture is ready, determines the degree of its compliance with the original plan. If something is wrong, the neural network redoes the picture. Well, in the end, another algorithm selects a name for the picture.

As for the auction, the picture is exhibited as an NFT. So far, about 6 paintings have already been sold. It is worth noting that their quality is getting better. The last painting sold for $80,000.

In fairness, it must be said that the paintings were originally sold on hype - after all, this is the work of a neural network! It seems that over time, sales will not go so actively.

Be that as it may, the role of artificial intelligence in creativity, including not only paintings, but also films, stories, poetry, is gradually increasing. So far, almost any work created by artificial intelligence has flaws. But technology is improving, so soon we will most likely be able to see real masterpieces.
