New equipment for turnstiles is being tested in the Moscow metro — you can pay with your Android smartphone without unlocking it

The Moscow Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development has begun testing new equipment for turnstiles in the Moscow metro.

The first new generation walkway zone controller appeared at the Prospekt Mira station on the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line. As the press service notes, with the new equipment, the passage to the subway will become even faster, since the reading speed will increase, and for payment it is possible not to unlock the smartphone, starting with Android devices. For the visually impaired, bright strokes and Braille are provided.

In the future, such turnstiles may introduce alternative payment methods using a QR code. In addition, the new CFCs use large color LED screens to show ticket status, balance balance and other useful information.

The head of the department Maxim Liksutov explained:

As part of the Digital Economy national project, approved by the President of the Russian Federation, we are primarily implementing Russian technologies and solutions. This year, all metro turnstiles will accept bank cards and virtual Troika for fare payment. The equipment that we plan to supply is manufactured by domestic manufacturers using Russian software. Thus, on behalf of the Mayor, it is possible to improve the comfort of passengers, reduce queues at the box office, have a positive impact on the environment, and also give impetus to the development of high-tech Russian industry.”
