AMD hid 2020 article that 4GB VRAM is not enough for modern games

AMD hid a 2020 article in which an employee of the company explained that 4 GB of VRAM is not enough for games. After criticism in social networks, I had to return it to its place, but the message is clear. The 2020 article goes against the current agenda. Within two years, AMD has reversed its position.

In a 2020 post, Adit Bhutani, Product Marketing Specialist for Radeon and Gaming, says that “AMD…leads the industry in maximum VRAM across its entire graphics card portfolio.” He also notes that "gamers may experience a number of issues" when playing with "insufficient levels of graphics memory, even at 1080p."

The article concludes that "4 GB of VRAM is clearly not enough for today's games."

Today, AMD is taking the opposite stance to promote the budget AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT 4GB graphics card, which launched yesterday at a suggested retail price of $199 (about 300 euros in reality).

At the same time, the above article also disappeared from the site.

To lessen the appeal of the card to miners, AMD physically messed it up. Laura Smith, AMD Vice President of Radeon Product Line Products, told the press at CES 2022 that the card is optimized to be primarily used by gamers: “The video memory has been reduced to 4 GB, which is enough for most AAA games, but not very attractive for blockchain and mining” (this article has been removed from the PC World site, but remains in the cache of the Web Archive).

There are a few other differences in the RX 6500 XT specifications from the previous generation RX 5500 XT graphics card, including the implementation of a narrow 64-bit memory bus, which is relatively rare in modern GPUs, instead of 128- or 256-bit, as in the desktop graphics cards of the latest generations. Comparison of the technical characteristics of budget graphics cards 2016-2022 looks depressing:
