Media: MegaFon has reduced the number of employees in the process of business optimization

According to sources from the Russian edition of Forbes, MegaFon has cut 15% of its staff, but not in all departments, in the process of business optimization at the end of 2021. This affected many non-core assets of the company, but almost did not affect the company's telecom business.

Current projects and employees of the MegaLabs innovation development center also fell under this process. According to insiders, the company plans to cut about 15% of its staff in 2022 as part of a new development strategy adopted last year.

Insiders said that almost all projects were closed in MegaLabs in January.

Sources of the publication explained that the reductions in the company take place as part of the processes of optimization and analysis of the current duties of employees. The company is reducing positions with duplicating functions and redistributing responsibilities among the remaining employees, increasing their workload. According to them, during the cuts, the alleged directors of all areas held meetings and told their employees that the salary of each dismissed employee would be added to their own.

According to Forbes sources, the company's management does not recognize the facts of mass layoffs and explained that all projects and developments in MegaLabs remain in work, including the Eva voice assistant and the MegaFon Plus multi-subscription, which were created on the basis of the MegaLabs IT infrastructure. Regarding the fate of the Start online cinema and the Megadisk cloud storage, the representative of Megafon did not disclose anything.

A representative of Megafon assured Forbes that the company is doing well, at the end of last year, all employees set new goals for themselves and set KPIs. The source of the publication explained that some employees, due to new high KPIs, decided to leave the company.

Regarding the closure of some projects in MegaLabs, the company clarified that these were pilot developments that involve closure after some stages if they do not receive development. Also, MegaFon explained that, on the contrary, over the past six months, several new developers have been taken to MegaLabs.

Market experts told Forbes that in the current market environment, the operator's costs have increased, because the company has begun the process of optimization and began to significantly save on payroll and taxes. They recalled that in 2018 MegaFon also optimized its staff. Then, employees of technical services in branches and advertising departments of the company fell under the cuts.
