“Sending humans to Mars today would cost $1 trillion,” Elon Musk wants to use underground hydroponic farms on the Red Planet:

Lex Friedman's podcast recently featured a new interview with Elon Musk, the richest man in the world. In a 2.5-hour interview, Musk answered questions about space, cryptocurrency, Tesla, brain-computer interfaces, consciousness, artificial intelligence, history, life, and philosophy.

In an interview, Elon Musk mentioned that landing a man on Mars would take 5 years at best and 10 years at worst. Starship, the most sophisticated and advanced rocket in history, has already passed static fire tests, according to Musk. The first flight is scheduled to take place before March. It may be delayed a bit because SpaceX makes regular engineering and design changes to the rocket. The main reason is an attempt to reduce the cost of delivering people and cargo. As Elon Musk said, if they decide to start getting people to Mars now, it will cost more than $1 trillion.

However, the team has other issues to address besides lowering prices for the "cost of delivering a ton of cargo" on Starship. As you know, Musk plans to establish self-sustaining cities on the Red Planet. And it will cost a fortune. But Musk has a specific plan: He wants to build a colony using solar-powered underground hydroponic farms to grow food. Hydroponics is a method of growing plants in artificially created environments without the use of soil. Under such conditions, crops receive all the necessary chemicals and elements from a special nutrient solution.

If all goes according to plan, Musk and his team will build 1,000 Starship rockets and take a million people to Mars, sending three rockets a day.
