The owner of the YouTube channel with the soundtracks of Mario games received another two thousand requests from Nintendo - he decided to delete the channel

GilvaSunner, the owner of the YouTube channel of the same name with the soundtracks of Mario games, said in his microblog that he received another 2.2 thousand copyright requests from Nintendo asking him to remove the videos. The platform administration has already blocked 1.3 thousand videos on the channel based on the previous batch of requests from the gaming company. The reason for filing requests was copyright infringement. The owner of the channel said that there is no point in further supporting the channel, so on Friday he will delete it.

As GilvaSunner pointed out, his channel, which has existed for 11 years, does not monetize videos in any way. However, he agrees that, legally, Nintendo has every right to make such requests and require removal. The company does not allow the use of soundtracks from its own games, even if the distributor does not earn money from them. GilvaSunner is not going to appeal YouTube decisions and argue with Nintendo. However, he is very upset that the company does not provide fans with any alternatives - it does not publish soundtracks on any streaming service.

This is not Nintendo's first attack of its kind on the GilvaSunner channel. In August 2019, several hundred videos were blocked based on requests from the company. Viewers of the channel in support went to Nintendo's Twitter account and, when asked about their favorite track for one of the games, they began to massively drop links to blocked videos from the GilvaSunner channel. A few months later, in December 2020, the owner received another batch of video takedown requests.

Unfortunately, Nintendo is notorious for attacking fans for copyright infringement. In 2020, Nintendo threatened to sue the developer of Dragoninjector hardware for the Switch game console, which allows you to install and download various versions of firmware on the device. In April 2019, the company requested that the Super Mario Bros. port be removed. for the Commodore 64. The author spent seven years creating a port of the original version of the game, released in 1985, and as a result posted it in the public domain on the Commodore Computer Club forum. At the request of Nintendo, the forum management removed links to the game and the release itself. In 2015, Nintendo forced the closure of the browser game Super Mario 64 on Unity, created by an enthusiastic student.

Periodically it came to completely absurd cases. For example, in 2020, Nintendo forced porn model Pokeprincxss to change branding due to the use of "Poké" and elements of the Pokémon franchise in the nickname and merchandise in the form of T-shirts and ballpoint pens.

At the same time, fans of Nintendo games often have no choice. In particular, in the summer of 2021, in response to the closure of the official multiplayer servers, a fan of Super Mario Bros. 35 posted on GitHub patches for playing on his own server. This game was released for the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros on October 1, 2020, and already on March 31, 2021, the servers were closed forever. The enthusiast decided on his own to help other fans of Nintendo games and, apparently, the server he created is still alive.
