Overclocked to 5.0 GHz, the quad-core Core i3-12300 beats the 8-core Core i7-11700KF and 10-core Core i9-10900K in games

Another test shows how good inexpensive Alder Lake processors are when overclocked. This time, the quad-core Core i3-12300 took part in the tests, and it managed to outperform the 8-core Core i7-11700KF and the 10-core Core i9-10900K in gaming performance at Full HD resolution. It was only necessary to overclock this CPU to a frequency of 5.0 GHz.

At a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, the overclocked Core i3-12300 shows exactly the same performance as the Core i7-11700KF, while the Core i9-10900K is only 1.3% faster. These tests clearly demonstrate not only the capabilities of budget Alder Lake, but also the fact that for games the number of cores is still not so important, but architecture features and frequency are important. It turns out that for a gaming system, a CPU with all four cores running at 5.0 GHz is preferable to a 10-core CPU that reaches 5.3 GHz with one active core.

Even being decently overclocked, the Core i3-12300 consumes within reasonable limits: 187 watts. This is more than the six-core Core i5-10600K, but much less than the Core i5-11600K.

Another interesting test is the CPU consumption depending on the memory. It turns out that when paired with DDR5, the Core i3-12300 consumes 6 watts more.

It remains to be noted that the official cost of the Core i3-12300 is $143 (when buying a large wholesale batch, but for comparison we will take such prices). And the official cost of the same Core i7-11700KF is 374-384 dollars. So for the price of the Core i7-11700KF alone, you can buy both the Core i3-12300 and the motherboard for it.
