Microsoft announces end of support for Windows 10 version 20H2 in May

Microsoft reminded customers that the end of support date for several versions of Windows 10, including 20H2 and 1909, is approaching. For example, Windows 10 version 20H2 (October 2020 Update) will end service on May 10, 2022.

After this date, Windows 10 Home, Pro, Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstations will not receive security updates. Enterprise, Education and IoT will continue to serve until May 9, 2023.

Also on May 10, 2022, support for Windows 10, version 1909 (Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise) ends. Version 1909 Home, Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstations ended in May 2021.

Microsoft said that customers who contact support after this date will be asked to update their device to the latest version of Windows 10.

Windows Update will force feature updates on end-of-service consumer devices and unmanaged business devices. Forced upgrades will occur before the end-of-life date of versions. Once the feature update is launched, customers will be able to choose a convenient restart time to complete it.

On January 21st, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 version 21H2 is being forced to roll out to more end-of-service devices.

Windows 10 21H2 is also being distributed to users who manually check for updates on Windows 10 version 2004 or later. Installation takes place using the quick update procedure.

January 26 also launched the wide rollout of Windows 11 version 21H2.

To check if your Windows 10 device is eligible to upgrade to Windows 11, you need to use the PC Health Check app or visit the Windows 11 PC Specifications, Features and Requirements page.
