Apple sued over 'jelly-like scrolling' on iPad Mini

Colorado resident Christopher Bryan filed a class action lawsuit against Apple on Wednesday, accusing the company of fraudulently marketing and selling a sixth-generation iPad mini with a scrolling defect.

The complaint, filed in Northern California District Court, alleges that Apple is aware of "jelly-like scrolling" but continues to sell the iPad mini without fixing the defect or amending its marketing materials to reflect it.

Pad Mini 6 was introduced on September 14, 2021. It costs $499 for the 64GB version and $649 for the 256GB version.

Customers soon began to complain that the iPad Mini 6's portrait mode scrolled with visual delays, and when scrolling text or pages in the browser, one side of the tablet's screen moved faster than the other.

In late September, an Apple spokesperson said the effect was "normal behavior for LCD screens."

Fixit disassembled the tablet and said that this effect may be more noticeable on the new iPad mini due to the fact that the display controller board is mounted vertically inside the device instead of horizontally, as in the fourth generation iPad Air.

The lawsuit seeks damages in an amount that must be proven in court for any person who bought the sixth generation iPad mini.
