Golden Crown banned operations with cryptocurrency

The Golden Crown payment service (KoronaPay) prohibits all transactions related to cryptocurrencies. At the moment, Zolotaya Korona is the largest money transfer service in Russia and the CIS countries.

Zolotaya Korona plans to expand its user base and now offers translations in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. By the end of 2022, in Europe alone, the service plans to make monthly transfers of 300 million euros. The decision to ban transactions with cryptocurrencies was made after the speech of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, directed against crypto-currency transactions and cryptocurrencies themselves. However, the decision will spread to the entire money transfer service network.

Nikolai Smirnov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Golden Crown, comments on this as follows:

“This decision also applies to transactions conducted in foreign jurisdictions that are not subject to the regulation of the Bank of Russia, where such transactions are formally allowed. First of all in Europe, where we work through a special company licensed by the Central Bank of Cyprus. This decision is due to the fact that we share the position of the regulator that most transactions with cryptocurrencies are aimed at circumventing the requirements of anti-money laundering (AML–Anti-Money Laundering) and we do not see reasonable legal cases for their use.”

These words are confirmed by the statements of the CEO of KoronaPay Europe. He said the company has a “zero tolerance policy for cryptocurrency-related transactions.” Also, if suddenly the service notices dubious or suspicious transactions, it will report to the relevant authorities, “as required by anti-money laundering legislation, including in Europe.”

Upon request in a WhatsApp chat with the operator, the bank confirms that it does not work with cryptocurrencies.
