Team17 closed the MetaWorms NFT project, which lasted only a day

Studio Team17 announced the closure of an NFT project based on characters from the Worms series of games. The decision was made after criticism from partner studios. The project lasted only a day, the tokens were not issued.

The Team17 game studio published a message on the official Twitter account about the cancellation of the project with non-fungible tokens. Management stressed that they listened to the opinion of the community and partners and decided to abandon the launch of NFT.

The MetaWorms Collection was announced on January 31st. The studio drew attention to the fact that the project differs from the rest in that it is environmentally friendly, and part of the proceeds will be used to sponsor a program to process waste by worms. At first, the studio's actions were criticized by Team17 employees - the journalists found out that plans to release the collection were hidden from them, and most of the employees found out about the start of the project together with the users.

Then the indie studios collaborating with Team17 joined in the criticism. So Aggro Crab Games spoke on Twitter that NFTs cannot be environmentally friendly and do not carry benefits. The studio refused to work with the publisher, and urged other companies to do the same. SMG and Navegante joined in the criticism and told users that they do not plan to integrate NFT into their projects.
