Lamborghini hopes to produce cars with internal combustion engines after 2030

The Volkswagen Lamborghini brand has announced a commitment to keeping combustion-powered vehicles beyond 2030, said division chief executive Stefan Winkelmann.

“After hybridization, we will wait to see if it will be possible to offer combustion engine vehicles after 2030,” he said. “One possibility would be to support internal combustion engine vehicles with synthetic fuels.”

Winkelmann said last month that Lamborghini plans to launch its first all-electric model later this decade.

Lamborghini, as well as its main competitors Ferrari, Aston Martin and McLaren, are working to launch electric cars without losing the high performance that supports this premium segment.

Honda previously announced that it would phase out internal combustion engine vehicles by 2040 in favor of battery and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. The company continues hydrogen technology research with General Motors.

At the end of last year, Toyota announced its intention to invest about $8 billion in the production of hybrid cars, which, among other things, use hydrogen as a fuel. The company will invest $35 billion in the creation of electric cars until 2030. Toyota in the next decade promises to introduce 30 new models of electric vehicles.

General Motors Corporation announced plans to build a research center for the production of batteries for electric vehicles. By 2025, the company is ready to introduce 30 new models of electric vehicles, and by 2040 become a zero-carbon production.

Rolls-Royce has pledged to phase out internal combustion engines in the production of cars and will produce electric cars. The manufacturer promises to start mass production of electric vehicles by 2030.
