Rating of countries whose citizens are most dependent on smartphones

Recently, researchers at McGill University in Canada published a study of nearly 35,000 people using smartphones in 24 countries between 2014 and 2020. Among them, Chinese users rank first in terms of mobile phone addiction.

The research paper was published in the journal Computers in Human Behavior. Based on published research results, the top three are China, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. Canada is ranked seventh, Japan is 15th, the US is 18th, and Germany is 24th. Only two countries from Africa are on the list of countries whose citizens are most dependent on smartphones. Egypt is in 9th place, while Nigeria is in 20th place.

According to the article, the subjects of this study are young people with an average age of 28.8 years. In addition, 60% of study participants are women. From 2014 to 2020, the problem of smartphone users around the world has become more serious, and this trend will definitely not end anytime soon.

The researchers say one possible explanation for differences in scores across countries is social norms and cultural expectations. Many of these users need motivation through their smartphones. In fact, many of them have their businesses and livelihoods tied to their smartphones.

All subway passengers in a particular country read books and newspapers, while most people on the subway in China look at their mobile phones. Later it turned out that the country where passengers read newspapers is only because the mobile network in the subway is not available. However, in the same region, after the commercialization of 5G, the situation is no different from China.

This list shows that Asians are more dependent on smartphones, followed by Europeans.
