Russia fears US sanctions: smartphone sales soar

Russians began to massively buy smartphones in early 2022. This was reported by the publication "Izvestia" with reference to representatives of retailers.

For example, Aleksey Zaitsev, the head of Telecom at Ozon, spoke about a 50% increase in sales in January compared to the results a year ago. In "AliExpress Russia" sales grew even more - by 60%. This was announced by the head of the "Smartphones" Arkady Markaryan.

However, such a rise is not observed everywhere. According to MTS analysts, on average, sales of smartphones in Russia in January in unit terms increased by 7.2% compared to the same period last year.

At the same time, according to Ozon, the Russian smartphone market has decreased from 32 million units in 2020 to 29.5 million units in 2021. The rise in demand at the beginning of 2022 is attributed by analysts to the unstable geopolitical situation and possible new sanctions from the United States, which are Russian consumers.
