Roskomnadzor is preparing sanctions against Google, Telegram and other companies that did not land in Russia

Russia may soon take additional measures against foreign IT companies that have not begun to comply with the so-called “landing” law.

Deputy head of Roskomnadzor Vadim Subbotin told reporters about this. According to the official, Roskomnadzor is ready to take coercive measures against such companies by the end of February. Among them, he mentioned Discord, Pinterest, Google, Telegram, Meta and Twitch. First of all, we are talking about economic measures, such as a ban on advertising.

According to the law adopted on July 1, 2021, from January 1, 2022, foreign IT companies are required to establish a branch or representative office with a Russian legal entity and fulfill a number of other obligations.

Earlier, Roskomnadzor published a list of companies that are required to open representative offices. The registry includes Google (Google Play, YouTube, YouTube Music, Google Chat, Gmail), Apple (iCloud, App Store, Apple Music), Meta Platforms (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp), Twitter, TikTok, Telegram, and Zoom, Viber, Spotify, Likeme Pte.Ltd. (Likee), Discord, Pinterest and Twitch. At the same time, Apple and Spotify have already opened their representative offices in Russia.
