Activision Blizzard Announces Overwatch League Returns May 5th

Activision Blizzard has announced that the new season of Overwatch League competition will begin on May 5, 2022. Each of the tournaments will be held on an early version of Overwatch 2. Players were promised new modes, and major tournaments will be transferred offline if possible.

The competition will be divided into two regions - the east with seven teams and the west with thirteen. Each team will play a minimum of 24 matches, including 6 qualifying games. This time, one extra week will be added to each tournament cycle, which will help the teams to create a more balanced schedule. The Eastern region during each tournament cycle will play in a round robin, and the Western teams will meet each of the opponents twice during the season.

The points system in the new season will work as follows:

for each victory in a qualifying match, teams will receive 1 league point;

f the team manages to reach the regional stage, then it will receive 1 league point and this will not depend on victories during the tournament;

teams that take second place in the regional tournament will receive 2 bonus points each, tournament champions 3;

Midseason Madness Global Tournament winners will receive 4 points each, 2nd place will receive 3 points, and 3rd place will receive 2 points.

At the end of each regional season, the top six teams from the west and three from the east will be selected. Selection will be based on earned points. The selected teams will compete in the playoffs, which will determine the champions of the Overwatch League. A detailed schedule was promised to be published later.
