Microsoft imposes restrictions on AltspaceVR, explaining this by working on security

Microsoft has closed all social centers of its AltspaceVR platform, such as Campfire, News and Entertainment Commons, in addition, now you can only enter the virtual reality application through a Microsoft account. The company explains that the changes are intended to increase the level of security in AltspaceVR.

All AltspaceVR users will now have the Security Bubble enabled by default, preventing other users from getting close. Finally, participants joining meetings in AltspaceVR will be muted by default.

The social hubs in AltspaceVR were designed to "help you make new friends" and serve as a starting point for getting to know the platform. Lack of moderation in these spaces can lead to harassment, which is the reason for their closure.

As for authorization in the application through a Microsoft account, this innovation will be implemented in the coming weeks.

Previously, Meta introduced "personal space" to Horizon Worlds. The feature is also enabled on the platform by default. It does not allow you to get closer to the user's avatar than 1.2 meters. There is no way to disable this feature, Meta spokeswoman Christina Milian said, but the distance will be allowed to be adjusted in the future.
