The situation with the new power connector for graphics cards, which is part of the PCIe 5.0 specifications, continues to be somewhat uncertain.

Gigabyte today introduced the UD1000GM PG5 1000W modular power supply, which is the first in the manufacturer's range with the same new generation connector.

The nuance here is that on the page of the power supply on its official website, Gigabyte calls the corresponding cable four different names:

PCIe Gen5 cable

12+4-pin cable

16-pin cable

12VHPWR

This indicates that manufacturers do not yet have any unified naming standard for the new connector, so everyone gets out as best they can. Gigabyte, apparently, decided to play it safe as much as possible.

Complicating the situation is that, for example, calling the connector a 12-pin would not be very correct, since such a power connector already exists. It would not be very correct to call it 16-pin, since there are still only 12 power contacts, and 4 more are used for data transfer to ensure security and compliance with PCIe Gen full 600W specifications.

Of course, in the end, some name will take root, but for now there will be confusion on the market.
