Media: Steam may soon be released on Chrome OS

9to5Google journalists reported that Steam support may appear on some Chromebooks in the near future. Experts managed to find a list of the first gadgets that will receive this opportunity.

In a recent published code change by Google, journalists found a list of Chromebooks that are preparing to support games from Steam. Now the list includes mainly devices from Acer and ASUS:

Acer Chromebook 514 (CB514-1H);

Acer Chromebook 515;

Acer Chromebook Spin 713 (CP713-3W);

ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5 (CX5500);

ASUS Chromebook CX9 (CX9400);

Chromebook HP Pro c640 G2;

unannounced model from Lenovo.

Code analysis showed that not every device from the list will support the update. Steam requires an 11th Gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processor and at least 7 GB of RAM to run. Such requirements make gaming on budget and mid-budget gadgets impossible.

Also, representatives of 9to5Google noted that Lenovo and HP are working on Chromebooks with an RGB keyboard and, probably, the line of gadgets will be aimed at gamers. Google itself is testing the gaming capabilities of devices on processors of past generations. And NVIDIA is working on support for discrete graphics cards in Chromebooks.
