The US Department of Justice announced proactive measures in the fight against cyber threats

US law enforcement will have the right to attack cybercriminals if decisive action helps reduce the risks to victims. As Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said, in critical cases, such measures will be applied, even if they can signal to criminals that an investigation is underway and jeopardize charges and arrests.

As such measures, Monaco noted the provision of decryption keys or the interception of servers that are used for the attack. Monaco also proposes to use sanctions and export controls against attackers - and not only those that the United States can adopt. She looks forward to the support of the country's partners in the government and private sectors. These measures, she said, will be necessary when cybercriminals start looking for a "safe harbor" in other jurisdictions. The deputy attorney general added that finding and arresting the perpetrators "will still be a priority."

As part of another initiative, the Ministry of Justice will try to prevent the illegal use of cryptocurrency. Cybercrime investigators and prosecutors will advise ministry analysts "to identify international action that can help stop the threat." This initiative, the Department of Justice hopes, will be international in nature, which will provide "more eyes from many law enforcement agencies around the world."

Earlier it became known that the ministry will create a new division of the FBI National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team (NCET). His task will be to control the circulation of cryptocurrency and confiscate virtual assets from attackers. Eun Yong Choi, who led the case of the Russian hacker Andrei Tyurin, who stole the data of tens of millions of customers of the American bank JPMorgan Chase & Co., will head the division.
