Juniper Research estimates $68 billion will be lost to digital ad fraud this year

Juniper Research conducted a study that showed that digital advertising spending lost due to fraud worldwide will reach $68 billion in 2022. For comparison, in 2021, $59 billion was lost due to digital ad fraud.

Analysts named five countries that were most affected by advertising fraud. These are the USA, Japan, China, South Korea and the United Kingdom. Together they account for 60% of global losses. The US alone will account for 35% of ad fraud losses in 2022. This is more than 23 billion dollars.

"Because the US is such a significant market in terms of ad spend, campaigns in North America are sure to attract the attention of fraudsters," Juniper Research said. "This will lead to unprecedented innovation in fraud tactics in the US, and advertisers will demonstrate a higher demand for fraud detection and mitigation services."

The most successful ad fraud detection tools are expected to use machine learning algorithms to compare ad traffic with previously observed and verifiable raw data.
