Since March 1, in the Russian Federation it is forbidden to throw system blocks, motherboards and hard drives into ordinary trash cans

From March 1, 2022, in Russia, according to the order of the Ministry of Natural Resources, it is forbidden to throw out unnecessary computer hardware to ordinary garbage sites. This applies to system units, motherboards and hard drives. All old computer electronics must be taken to special collection points for recycling. The fine for such a violation for individuals is small - from a thousand to two thousand rubles.

If computers are thrown into the trash by a legal entity, then they face an administrative penalty of 100-200 thousand rubles.

The Ministry of Natural Resources explained that so far they cannot track the disposal of computers by citizens in the trash. They promise to make sure that organizations do not do this, and in case of violations, the Ministry of Natural Resources will fine only legal entities.

The agency clarified that fines will be imposed on citizens only after special sites for collecting old computers and other electronic waste are created in their area. So far, there are few such special containers for high-tech waste in Russia. They have just begun to appear in Moscow and the Moscow region.

Since 2021, it is forbidden in Russia to throw phones and batteries into the trash. But this prohibition is not particularly observed by anyone.

Currently, all foreign manufacturers pay an environmental fee when selling their products in the Russian Federation. This tax includes a nominal fee for the disposal of electronic devices.
