Online scammers are sending more phishing emails

Phishing (a type of internet email scam) has grown significantly in recent years compared to phone scams. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to a study by Kaspersky Lab, which specializes in protecting programs and digital data, and Raiffeisenbank.

“We are seeing a significant increase in phishing compared to phone scams over the past six months. In 2021, phishing attacks accounted for 35% of all fraud cases faced by our clients - in 2020 this share was only 5%, ”the study quoted Ilya Zuev, head of information security at Raiffeisenbank, as saying.

Kaspersky Lab noted that launching phishing resources takes a matter of minutes. With their help, scammers send mass messages with an offer to invest their savings profitably against the background of similar offers that flooded the financial services market in 2021.

“In order to give credibility to the procedure, the victims were asked to take a test or submit an application, and sometimes get expert advice. The result was the same: by giving money to scammers, the investor did not receive anything, ”the authors summarized.

Earlier, Security Director of Post Bank Stanislav Pavlunin said that scammers began to transfer money to the cards of future victims in order to gain confidence in them.
