Zoom and Meta (Facebook) landed in Russia

Zoom Video Communications and Meta Platforms, the company behind popular services such as Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, have begun to comply with the so-called "landing" law. This was reported by the press service of Roskomnadzor.

As the department explains, Meta Platforms and Zoom Video Communications have already registered a personal account on the official website of Roskomnadzor. In addition, the Zoom team is working on creating a feedback form and is considering opening a representative office in Russia.

Last week, Roskomnadzor threatened sanctions against Google, Telegram and other companies that did not “land” in Russia. They face advertising bans and other economic restrictions.

According to the law adopted on July 1, 2021, from January 1, 2022, foreign IT companies are required to establish a branch or representative office with a Russian legal entity and fulfill a number of other obligations.

Earlier, Roskomnadzor published a list of companies that are required to open representative offices. The registry includes Google (Google Play, YouTube, YouTube Music, Google Chat, Gmail), Apple (iCloud, App Store, Apple Music), Meta Platforms (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp), Twitter, TikTok, Telegram, and Zoom, Viber, Spotify, Likeme Pte.Ltd. (Likee), Discord, Pinterest and Twitch. At the same time, Apple, Spotify, Likee and Viber have already begun to comply with the requirements of the legislation in Russia.
