Google will no longer require US employees to vaccinate against COVID-19

According to Verge, at the end of February, Google relaxed the requirements for security protocols for the work of employees in offices in the United States. Now there is no mandatory requirement for vaccination. Also, the lack of vaccination is no longer a refusal to hire new employees of the company.

A Google spokeswoman clarified to the publication that the company will continue to properly ensure the safety of employees in offices. They must take weekly molecular tests and also wear masks in the office. Previously, anyone who visited the office had to take such a test before coming. Now only unvaccinated workers are required to do this.

In addition, Google has significantly relaxed its policy on some previously canceled office amenities. The company announced that it is reopening unannounced access to fitness centers and massage parlors for employees, resuming staff shuttles, and opening all additional areas where you can have breakfast and lunch for free. Google also unblocked all informal spaces in offices - recreation areas, games and music rooms and returned access to massage chairs for staff. With these measures, the company is going to return most of the employees to the offices.

Currently, the majority of Google employees are working remotely or in hybrid work mode. The company previously planned to return to pre-COVID operations from January 10, 2022, however, due to the spread of the coronavirus strain, Omicron decided to postpone the return for a certain period.

In early December, Google promised to compensate its employees around the world in the amount of $1,600 or the equivalent. The bonus to support employees during the pandemic will also go to interns. Earlier during the period of exacerbation of the coronavirus infection, Google threatened to deprive salaries, and then fire employees who did not get vaccinated.
