The United States demanded that TSMC stop cooperation with Russia

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world's largest chip manufacturer, has notified Russian partners that the company may refuse to cooperate at the request of the United States.

Baikal Electronics, STC Modul, MCST and small chip manufacturers may be hit. If sanctions are imposed, they will have to look for alternative chip factories. Experts note that in the current conditions there is a risk of a complete stop in the supply of memory cards, video cards, hard drives and other components from Southeast Asia.

TSMC is one of the largest semiconductor manufacturers in the world. The company's clients are Apple, AMD, Qualcomm and Nvidia, as well as Russian customers, including Baikal Electronics, STC Module and MCST (which develops Elbrus processors), as well as less well-known companies.

Executive Director of the Association of Russian Developers and Electronics Manufacturers Ivan Pokrovsky believes that the termination of cooperation between TSMC and Russian chip manufacturers will actually stop the production and implementation of technology on Russian processors for an indefinite period: “Developers will have to look for alternative factories. Taking into account the fact that now most Russian microcircuits are produced at the level of 22 nm and thicker, there are about ten alternative factories in the world in different regions.”

Baikal Electronics reported that they had no information about a possible stop in deliveries. The MCST declined to comment. Malt System did not respond to a request.
