Microsoft will also raise prices for boxed versions of Office for business and electronic keys

Microsoft announced another price increase - this time from January 15, 2022, the prices for Microsoft Office for Home and Business 2021 and Microsoft Office Professional 2021 will rise in price by 10%. The price increase will affect only boxed versions and electronic licenses of these products for distributors. This is the third announcement of a rise in prices for the company's products in December.

On December 6, overseas media reported that Microsoft had sent out notices to business customers that the price of monthly Microsoft 365 subscriptions would increase by 20% next year. In this way, the company expects to encourage customers to switch to long-term tariffs in order to more confidently forecast their revenues. In turn, for small and medium-sized businesses (which, presumably, will suffer the most from such a decision), it is more profitable to take monthly subscriptions. Such a payment system allows you to minimize costs and flexibly change conditions and tariffs depending on changes in state in the current global uncertainty. Now, instead of saving, companies will be forced to pay 20% more or switch to annual rates at risk for themselves, which may also not be particularly beneficial for them.

A week later, the Russian branch of Microsoft announced an increase in the price of licenses for the company's cloud software for Russian customers. From January 1, 2022, prices for Office Professional Plus, Office Standard, Windows Server Standard and Datacenter, RDS SAL will increase by 10%. Also, the cost of licenses for CIS (Core Infrastructure Server) Datacenter will increase by 7% and for CIS Standard by 5%. Microsoft has assured that the increase in prices is global and will affect customers around the world.

In addition, in the summer of this year, Microsoft announced an increase in ruble prices for commercial software and cloud services as part of adjusting the licensing program in Russia. Since October 1, prices for Russian have increased by 15.2%. In addition, foreign companies report that prices for most Microsoft 365 products will increase by 15% from March 1, 2022.

Foreign business customers of Microsoft are already expressing dissatisfaction with the significant rise in prices for the company's products. Most of all, small and medium-sized businesses are unhappy, which have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. In the conditions of global uncertainty, it is not profitable for them to take annual tariffs. Nevertheless, due to the new pricing policy of Microsoft, some will have to pay several increases in prices at once (20% monthly rate + increase in prices for services in general). Outraged business customers have petitioned Change.org to cancel a planned 20% price increase on monthly rates. To date, 1,716 people have signed it.
