The analyst assessed the likelihood of Russia disconnecting from the global Internet

Disconnecting Russia from the global Internet will cause global communication problems. This opinion was expressed to RIA Novosti by Ruslan Permyakov, Deputy Director of the NTI Competence Center "Trusted Interaction Technologies".

“The global Internet is a huge computer network, we are connected to it using less than a dozen communication nodes, including those on the western and eastern borders. Other countries also conduct their traffic through us, including the same Japan. The loss of the “Russian” piece will create problems with global communications,” the specialist explained.

According to him, if such a thing happens, it will last "for a very short time", and at the same time, Russian infrastructure should not suffer.

“In recent years, much has been done to prepare for possible disruptions. Technological ties with foreign servers and infrastructure manufacturers were severed. We have GLONASS, so there should not be a critical impact on the railway, flight control. Basic systems will work, the website of public services, applications of banks and others will work,” Permyakov emphasized.

At the same time, he added, ordinary users may lose their usual services and some instant messengers. However, the Russians at the same time have the opportunity to switch, for example, to Chinese services and instant messengers, Permyakov believes.

Earlier, NBC reported that US intelligence agencies are offering President Joe Biden options to carry out an “attack against Russia, among the options is to disrupt the Internet connection in Russia, cut off power supply and destabilize the work of the railway in order to “undermine” Russia's ability to support its military operations in Ukraine.

Also, US intelligence agencies are separately considering the option of a “large-scale cyber attack” on Russian resources.
