Valve introduced the free game Aperture Desk Job for Steam Deck

Valve has introduced a small free game in the Portal universe - Aperture Desk Job - for the Steam Deck portable console. The release of the project is scheduled for March 1.

The Aperture Desk Job will introduce users to the Steam Deck's set of controls and features.

Valve says it will be a short game that will redefine the walking simulation genre. The protagonist of the project will be an office worker from Aperture Science, climbing up the career ladder.

The developers emphasize that Aperture Desk Job is not Portal 3. The Verge journalist notes that Valve has not previously announced its intention to release something like this. Prior to this, the head of the company, Gabe Newell, said that the company plans to spend the resources of developers on already launched projects, for example, Dota and Counter Strike, and not on creating a new game.

Last August, Valve announced that it was not going to release exclusive games for Steam Deck, as it did with Half-Life: Alyx for VR devices. The company said that releasing handheld console exclusives doesn't make much sense. However, Aperture Desk Job is likely to be released on other platforms as well.

Steam Deck went on sale February 25th. Newell said that most pre-ordered the most expensive bundle of the console. The first buyers will receive the console on February 28th. Valve also said that it plans to release an improved version of the handheld Steam Deck 2, which will be more powerful than the current iteration and more productive than PCs and laptops. There are currently 425 games on the console, including Portal 2, Death Stranding, and God of War.

Yesterday, Valve introduced a Steam Deck docking station that connects to the console via a USB-C port. It will be available to order at the end of spring.

The authors of three youtube channels talked about their experience using Steam Deck. They noted the console's good performance and average autonomy. Bloggers also liked the ergonomics of the device.
