Cyber scammers came up with a new way to steal money from users

Cyber scammers have come up with a new way to steal funds - by disguising malware as banners advertising "browser updates", RIA Novosti reports citing cybersecurity company Angara Security.

“On online shopping sites, scammers distribute banners with a notification that the browser version is outdated and needs to be updated to increase the level of security. Similar notifications are displayed for users of Android devices, the occurrence of similar incidents is not excluded among users of other operating systems, ”said the experts.

In their opinion, cyber-fraudsters have radically changed their tactics against the backdrop of increased security needs of network users.

“The attackers approached the creation of their ads with an atypical level of personalized communication with potential victims. So, the text of the banner says that the 89th version of the Google Chrome browser used is obsolete, even if the user has the 98th version installed on the device,” explained Angara Security.

The ease of execution of a new method of fraud on the Internet is explained, according to experts, by the emotional state of users and the forced feeling of lack of time.

Earlier, Russians were warned about calls from scammers demanding to withdraw money due to the SWIFT shutdown.
